Emergency Evidence Handling Instructions
To prevent the intentional or inadvertent spoliation of electronic evidence, adhere strictly to the following pre-intake protocol:
๐ฑ Mobile Phones & Tablets
Do not browse apps or read messages. Enable Airplane Mode immediately. Place device in a radio-frequency shielding Faraday bag or wrap in multiple layers of aluminum foil. Keep device powered if battery permits.
๐ป Computers & Laptops
If the computer is powered OFF, leave it off. Do not boot or allow internal IT to inspect it. If powered ON, do not shut down via start menu; contact examiner Gary Huestis to evaluate live RAM capture.
๐ Chain of Custody
Document the date, time, physical location, and custodian identity from whom the device was acquired. E-Investigations issues a formal evidentiary Chain of Custody receipt upon handover.
